The Battle of Gettysburg was one of the most important battles of the American Civil War. It was fought from July 1-3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Union Army, led by General George Meade, defeated the Confederate Army, led by General Robert E. Lee. The victory was a turning point in the war, and it helped to ensure the eventual Union victory.

The battle was fought on a series of hills and ridges. The Union Army held the high ground, and they were able to use their artillery to great effect. The Confederate Army attacked repeatedly, but they were unable to break through the Union lines. On the third day of the battle, Lee launched a massive assault on the Union center, but it was repulsed with heavy losses. The Confederate Army was forced to retreat, and the Union Army won the battle.

The Battle of Gettysburg was a bloody affair. More than 50,000 men were killed, wounded, or missing. The battle is often considered to be the turning point of the Civil War. After Gettysburg, the Confederate Army was never able to mount a major offensive, and the Union Army went on to win the war.
