Freud's Life and Career
Lucian Freud was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1922. He was the grandson of Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis. Freud's family moved to England in 1933 to escape the Nazis. Freud studied art at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. He began his career as a painter in the 1940s and quickly gained recognition for his powerful and unflinching portraits.
Freud's work is characterized by its realism and psychological intensity. He often painted his subjects naked, and his paintings are often disturbing and confrontational. Freud said of his work, "I want to paint people as they are, without any idealization." Freud's work has been praised for its honesty and its ability to capture the human condition.
